Fill the Void
Lemale et ha'halal
Eighteen-year-old Shira is the youngest daughter of an Orthodox Hassidic family from Tel Aviv. She is to marry a promising young man, but when her older sister Esther dies in childbirth, the grief that overwhelms the family postpones Shira’s wedding and will force her to choose between her heart’s desire and her family duty.
Fill The Void is the first feature from Rama Burshtein, who is the first ultra-Orthodox Jewish woman to write and direct a feature-length film for the cinema. It won seven awards at the Israeli Film Awards including Film, Director, Actress & Screenplay as well as winning the Venice Film Festival Best Actress for Hadas Yaron.
